Zips Earth Day targets preventing Lake Erie microplastic pollution

CLEANR was highlighted in the University of Akron’s Zips Earth Day coverage for its role in reducing microplastic pollution entering Lake Erie. As washing machine wastewater contributes an estimated 35% of global microplastic emissions, the initiative focused on practical ways to stop pollution at the source.

Five CLEANR filtration units were installed in campus residence halls to demonstrate how simple interventions at the household level can make measurable environmental impact. The project builds on a growing effort across the US to involve universities in the movement towards sustainable innovation.
