Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

CLEANR for Washing Machines

Product & Compatibility

  • The CLEANR Microplastic Filter is an external filtration system designed to remove over 90% of microplastics down to 50-microns in size from washing machine wastewater. It utilizes CLEANR’s patent-pending VORTX technology, inspired by biomimicry, to provide efficient filtration and sustainability.

  • The filter connects to your washing machine’s drain hose, capturing microplastics as wastewater flows through. The VORTX technology creates a vortex effect that efficiently separates microplastics from the water, which are then collected in a disposable CLEANR Pod.

  • CLEANR uses advanced VORTX separation technology, providing high microplastic removal efficiency while maintaining a dry and easy user experience with the CLEANR Pod. It is compatible with all washing machine makes and models and offers smart connectivity via the CLEANR App for monitoring and maintenance reminders.

  • CLEANR captures over 90% of microplastics as small as 50 microns, including synthetic fibers released from clothing during washing cycles. Any particulate leaving your clothing (including hair, sand, etc.) will also be captured in the filter.

  • Washing clothing is the number one source of microplastic pollution in our environment. Textile abrasion in the washing machine releases millions of microplastic fibers into wastewater with every cycle. CLEANR helps prevent these pollutants from reaching oceans and water sources, contributing to a cleaner environment.

  • Yes, the CLEANR Filter is compatible with all washing machine makes and models that have an outlet pump. If you have an issue connecting your washing machine to the Filter, please review our user guide, specifically on using the inlet size adapter.

  • The CLEANR Filter is designed with built-in safety features to ensure it does not interfere with normal washing machine operation. The Filter contains an internal tank, water detection system, and pump so that all fluid can be filtered without unnecessary stress on your washing machine. The system includes a bypass mechanism to maintain uninterrupted washing cycles if cleaning or maintenance is required.

  • The CLEANR Filter offers flexible placement options. It can be positioned on your washing machine, dryer, a shelf, or even on the floor, as long as the surface is flat and level.

Installation & Setup

  • Installation is simple and tool-free. Connect the filter to your washing machine’s drain hose using the provided hose clamps and adapter if needed. The user guide provides step-by-step instructions for setup and a video overview of the process.

  • No tools are required for installation. The filter is designed for a hassle-free setup using the provided components!

CLEANR App & Connectivity

  • Download the CLEANR App from the App Store or the Google Play store, following the QR code in your user guide or searching “CLEANR Filter.”

Initial connection is made via Bluetooth (V4.2), after which the app sends Wi-Fi credentials to the filter for continuous monitoring and notifications.

  • The CLEANR App provides status notifications, including reminders for Pod changes and VORTX cleaning, and troubleshooting alerts for optimal performance.

  • The app enhances user experience by offering real-time monitoring of microplastics capture, filter maintenance reminders, and the ability to purchase replacement pods directly.

  • No, the filter functions independently, but the app provides convenience in tracking performance and maintenance schedules.

Maintenance & Care

  • The front-facing LED status icons indicate when cleaning is needed. Notifications are also sent through the CLEANR App.

  • The VORTX component should be cleaned every 20-30 loads (roughly once or twice a month). CLEANR Pods should be changed every five loads (about once a week).

  • Throw your Pod into the trash where the microplastics will be properly contained. Do not rinse your Pod or VORTX with water.

  • Changing your Pod should take less than 30 seconds. Simply dispose of the old Pod, removing all microplastics safely, and insert a new Pod into the canister.

Cleaning the VORTX takes less than two minutes. Use the included cleaning brush to remove any buildup from the VORTX component. Full instructions are in the user guide.

  • Remove the VORTX component and place a new Pod into the canister. Run a hot water cleaning cycle on your washing machine with your usual cleaning additives. This cycle is recommended every 3 months to eliminate smell and prevent build-up.

Troubleshooting

  • Yes, replacement parts, including CLEANR Pods, are available for purchase on www.cleanr.life. Contact our support team for more information.

  • LED indicators will display normal operation. The center light is a CLEANR Logo that will illuminate blue when the filter is receiving power and ready to filter. The CLEANR App also provides performance insights.

  • Blinking red lights indicate missing filter components while the filter is attempting to filter your washing machine wastewater. Pause the washing machine. Ensure all filter components are correctly installed following the user guide. The CLEANR logo in the center of the display screen will be blue when the product is ready to Filter. Contact customer support if the issue persists.

  • When functioning, the filter internal pump and safety bypass may produce some noise. If excessive, loud noise occurs, ensure the filter is on a stable surface and that no obstructions are inside. Contact customer support if the issue persists.
